Austrian media artists Jerobeam Fenderson<\/strong> (Chris Nova Ludwig) and Hansi3D<\/strong> (Hansi Raber) have been exploring the largely uncharted world of oscilloscope music through vector synthesis since 2014. Vector synthesis is an audiovisual art form in which sound is generated through images by sending the same signal to both speakers, and the X and Y inputs of an analogue oscilloscope or laser. Various degrees of (dis)sonance can be achieved by synthesising, modulating and organising this information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hansi Raber<\/strong><\/a> is a LASER artist and software developer with a background in mathematics and computer science. He teaches at Kunstuniversit\u00e4t Linz. Hansi is developer of specialised software tools<\/a><\/strong> such as OsciStudio<\/strong>, LaserFromSound<\/strong> (a VST plug-in for laser DACs) and \u2018Oscilloscope!\u2019<\/strong>, which allow live vector synthesis across multiple media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chris Nova Ludwig<\/a> <\/strong>studied Music Computing at Goldsmiths University, London, and Electronic and Sound Engineering at Graz University of Technology. A media artist, she works with oscilloscopes and LASERs, as well as in interdisciplinary installation and performance art. Nova is chair of the Intergalactic Laser Federation e.V.<\/a><\/strong>, Vienna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their debut album, Oscilloscope Music<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, was released back in 2016. Their latest EP, N-SPHERES <\/em>(2024), is available as special edition on limited 3.5″ floppy disks with hand-drawn vector artwork. Nova and Hansi’s live performances, apply high-speed multispectral lasers, triggering the audience through interdimensional stimuli into new ways of experiencing space, light and sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hrvoje Radni\u0107<\/strong>, musician, sound engineer and LASER artist, lives and works in Zagreb. He has been exploring the combination of sound and light in electronic form for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2010, he founded the psychedelic rock band \u0160umovi protiv Valova<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (translation: \u2018Noise Against the Waves\u2019), whose mix of krautrock<\/em>, post-rock, dub and ambient, as well as AAA productions (analogue recording on magnetic tape or direct vinyl cutting without mastering), explores the spectrum of resonance and boundaries of technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of 2019, while on a repair job for an electronic organ, Radni discovered the universe of oscilloscope music. He connected an oscilloscope with Pure Data software and was immensely fascinated by the possibility of directly displaying audio signals as visual forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ever since, he has been working with ILDA files<\/a> and high-speed multispectral lasers. His audiovisual works are shown at European media art festivals such as Vector Hack<\/strong> (HR), 25 FPS<\/strong> (HR), Audio Art <\/strong>(PL) and Sine Linea<\/strong> (HR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a curious inventor and committed mediator of old and new technology, Hrvoje teaches at the Radiona.org<\/a><\/strong> cultural centre in Zagreb. His free workshops cover oscilloscope music, Pure Data, sound design and mobile sound generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, 24 January 2026, from 11:00 to 16:00<\/strong>, Hrvoje will be giving an introductory workshop<\/strong> for Osci-Render<\/strong> software in Vienna, allowing participants to start their own vector synthesis projects (licence fee: \u20ac30). R\u00e9my James<\/a><\/strong> is a motion picture and media artist from Nantes (FR). His practice encompasses audio, light projection and installation, often in collaboration with colleagues from the local arts scene in Nantes. In a joint endeavour with Mire<\/a><\/strong>, an NGO for experimental cinema and moving images, and Blockhaus DY10<\/a><\/strong>, an alternative cultural centre on the \u00cele de Nantes existing for more than 30 years, R\u00e9my works in a collective film lab. His most recent projects include the event \u2018ABERRATION \u2013 Mire x Blockhaus DY10\u2019 (February 2024), featuring an interdisciplinary programme of performances, concerts and installations, as well as the celebration of Blockhaus DY10’s 30th anniversary in September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R\u00e9my is the youngest artist in our line-up for OTHER GEOMETRIES<\/em>. In addition to disseminating the art of vector synthesis, this project also facilitates networking among European artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernhard Rasinger<\/strong> (Vienna), engineer and visual sound artist, is co-curator of this project. <\/strong>He has been working himself under the pseudonym BR-Laser<\/a> since 2013 with modular synthesizers and state-of-the-art laser technology to create hypnotic audiovisual experiences (projects include: Tearing light from sound<\/em>, LazerMeduza<\/em>, and Optokoppler<\/em>). He is also co-founder of the art space New J\u00f6rg Vienna<\/a><\/strong>, offering work spaces and exhibition opportunities to Vienna\u2019s vibrant art scene. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A regular guest at international experimental music festivals, music fairs and workshop host, Bernhard has performed at Ars Electronica <\/strong>(AT), Superbooth<\/strong> (DE), Modular Days<\/strong> (ES), Machines in Music <\/strong>(USA), Kontaktor<\/strong> (LT), Gigamodular <\/strong>(JP) and Skanu Me\u017es<\/strong> (LT), among others. More recently, his work has been showcased within the Expanded Cinema programme of the Process Festival 2023 <\/strong>in Riga. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernhard has been, and still is involved in several collaborative projects with artists such as Owen Armour, Richard Devine, Vaclav Pelousek, Anna Samsoe, Panic Girl, Robert Henke, Anna Sircova, Hrtl, Kikkimore Collective, Denshikaimen, Lukas K\u00f6nig, Mopcut, Phillip Haffner, Dorian Concept, Jacqnoise, Coast2c, Elena Pardo and Gischt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
