Facilitating a moment of actualisation within mete\u014dra musik\u0113<\/em>, Finnish musician and sound artist Merja Kokkonen (aka Islaja) introduces a figure that shifts the sediments of time towards a digital future. Her performance \u201cUrvogel\u201d (German for primordial bird, archaeopteryx<\/em>) centres on a \u2018techno-shamanic\u2019 persona \u2013 a hybrid creature emerging from the fossil record of the computational turn and the cybernetic laboratory.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

At the core of this performance is a sonic costume \u2013 a wearable instrument crafted from recycled computer parts, circuit boards, and electronic sensors. Its digital plumage transforms the artist\u2019s body into a sensitive antenna for her environment. Equipped with motion sensors and environmental data inputs, the costume generates real-time granular synthesis that blends Kokkonen\u2019s movements with the park\u2019s atmospheric conditions into a czirping<\/em>, electro-organic soundscape.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Merja\u2019s performance is a tender act of interception in the course of public space \u2013 a gesture of adaptation and interaction.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Roaming Sch\u00f6nbornpark like a bird exploring its territory, she engages in a tactile dialogue with the so-called \u2018tech-trash\u2019 of the Anthropocene and the eternal rhythms of the mete\u014dra<\/em>. In doing so, this archetype of the augur re-enchants the technological artifacts we discard, proposing a (post-)prosumer mythology where the ghosts in the machine learn to whistle with the wind.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
